"Letter to the Yeoman"
Article from the Weekly Kentucky Yeoman newspaper of Frankfort, KY - Jan 7, 1879
An interesting letter concerning the Little-Burnett troubles which happened mostly in November of 1878 in Breathitt County. It lists several civilian Souths killed by the homeguard during the war.

"Overview - A Plain Story of the Deadly Quarrels That Have Made the Name of Breathitt a By-Word"
Article from the Louisville Courier-Journal in 1903
It gives a general overview of Breathitt County and its feuding days up until 1903. It's one of the best articles of its kind. It mentions Jerry South Sr. and William Tyler Barry South.

The book by Green Trimble (uncle of South Trimble)

THE SOUTH-SURNAME EMAIL LIST

The South-Surname Mailing List is dedicated to the open discussion and sharing of any information pertinent to the South Family, any line, anywhere in the world. Feel free to post anything from queries to web site URL's to family stories to what ever relates to the Souths, but please, keep your posts limited to just South family genealogy/history.

While it is our desire and intent to keep this list open and casual, we have a few guidelines we ask each member to honor so that we stay focused on the sole purpose of this list:

1. No Flaming! If you don't like what someone has written, use your DELETE key or email that individual privately. This rule is firm. Flames and insults will NOT be tolerated and flamers will be cheerfully removed from the list.

2. Please do not send virus warnings, chain letters, political statements, etc. to the list.

3. No commercial solicitations of any kind are acceptable. If you have genealogical information for sale and would like to announce it here, please send the information to Jayne or David and we will pass it along to the group, if we consider it appropriate.

4. Please do not send any kind of attachment to the list. Attachments have a tendency to cause too many problems. You are, however, welcome to send the attachments privately.


A few short instructions are listed below which you are advised to save for future reference.

1. TO SUBSCRIBE:

a. MAIL MODE (SOUTH-SURNAME-L) each individual message sent to the list will be forwarded to your email address as it is received (you get multiple emails from the list each day).

In the body of the message include only one word: subscribe
(Turn OFF your signature file when sending this command)

b. DIGEST MODE (SOUTH-SURNAME-D) each individual message sent to the list will be collected and after a preset amount of time, all messages sent to the list during that time period will be forwarded to your email address as one email (you get one email from the list each day).

In the body of the message include only one word: subscribe
